The population of Kostanay region as of October 1, 2024 was 826.6 thousand people, including 519.7 thousand people (62.9%) - urban, 306.9 thousand people (37.1%) - rural residents.
The average monthly nominal wage accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activity) in the third quarter of 2024 amounted to $ 646.76, an increase of 14% compared to the third quarter of 2023.
The Kostanay Branch of Chelyabinsk State University was established on May 25, 2000. Its academic structure includes 14 faculties and 6 research institutes, including the Institute of Information Technology and the Institute of Fundamental Medicine.
Instruction is conducted in Russian, but international mobility is supported through partnerships with universities in China, Europe, and Kazakhstan. The branch actively participates in student exchange programs, invites international experts, and provides students with opportunities for cross-border academic development.

A. Baitursynuly Kostanay University, established in 1957, is the leading regional university in Northern Kazakhstan. The university offers programs in humanities, natural sciences, engineering, IT, and economics, with around 8,000 students currently enrolled.
The university actively develops projects in educational modernization and international cooperation. As part of a recently launched joint program with the University of Minnesota (USA), American professors regularly visit Kostanay to deliver lectures and integrate international academic standards. Top-performing students are offered opportunities for internships or study programs in the United States.
