The region is rich in forests and ore. About 400 deposits of minerals and mineral raw materials have been explored, including 68 underground waters, 19 deposits of bauxite, 7 gold, one each of silver and nickel have been discovered. The subsoil of the region is rich in minerals: magnetite and oolitic iron ores, bauxite, brown coal, asbestos, refractory and brick clays, flux and cement limestone, glass sand, building stone, etc. The total reserve of magnetite ores and brown iron ores is 15.7 billion tons.
The mining industry produced goods worth 188.1 billion tenge (January-March 2023 - 161.1 billion tenge, an increase of 16.8%), the index of physical volume - 113.0%. Bauxite production increased by 34.1%, pellet production by 27.5%, and iron ore concentrate by 5.0%.
The manufacturing industry produced goods worth 446.5 billion tenge (January-March 2023 - 431.5 billion tenge, growth of 3.5%), IFV - 101.3%. The growth of the industry was achieved due to an increase in the production of mechanical engineering (IFV - 106.4%, 260.2 billion tenge, share in the industry - 58.3%), metallurgical production (IFV - 101.5%, 67.5 billion tenge, share in the industry - 15.1%). In the manufactured products, the production of passenger cars increased by 20.0%, the production of rolled steel by 16.6%.
In the structure of the region’s industry, the largest share falls on the manufacturing industry – 67.6%, the mining sector accounts for 28.5%, electricity supply – 3.2%, water supply – 0.7%.
